Thule - Beyond the borders of the known world

In 2017, I worked closely with several musicians to compose original music for a dance performance. For ‘Sleeping Summit’, I collaborated with follow producer Luke Bamford to create a minimalist piano piece which mirrored the frolicking dancing in the footage.

This piece in particular features various uses of minimalist composition methods, inspired by the likes of Steve Reich. The steady use of quaver notes on the piano creates a pulsating rhythm, to accompany the energetic performance by the dancer. The piano also uses two distinct piano melodies, both adopting the use of quaver notes to create contrary motion between the two phrases. The constant rhythm and harmony between the two piano arpeggios, effectively mirrors the lively performance of the dancer

This film later went on to win an award for Best Original Score by the Frostbite International Indie Film Festival.
